  • In 2021 ALDI was heading for a completely new target audience in the gaming industry. The idea was to envision a supermarket that would fulfil every gamer’s dreams: An ALDI market where you can buy magical items, armour, fireballs, weapons and even flying suits. To bring this vision to life Christopher Schlierf worked closely with the production company Simon & Paul and their art direction team around Merlin Ortner to create a magical ALDI market. Christopher Schlierf first designed 3D mock ups of the store that were further developed with concept sketches by Merlin. Detailed previs and reference mood boards were shared with SFX, VFX and art department to match his vision as closely as possible. To create the hero’s suit Christopher Schlierf worked closely with the costume designers who even built futuristic sci-fi weapons in 3D to get them 3D printed and built together by a weapon specialist. To get everything in camera the SFX team came up with a great idea to create the fireballs on set as well as letting the main character lift off in the air with the sci-fi suit. To create a filmic 'Stranger Things' flair to the spot, casting and wardrobe was hugely influenced by Christopher Schlierf as he wanted to catch the picky gaming community and engage them with unique characters. The campaign was a huge success and managed to position ALDI as the main supplier for gaming nutrition, software and hardware bundles in the supermarket sector.
